24 Nov

Animator Flexic Colgrave takes us into a mind boggling multi-layered, hyper-dimensional magical trip in a world of llamas, dragons and big eyed birds.

The animation skills, creature making, movement, are good, at times beautiful. The action is a kind of endless violent food chain slapstick which is only amusing in very short segments, perhaps to set a tone or create an environment for something more thoughtful. Unfortunately that never came, I just waited for the eating grabbing etc. to change to something more interesting. Alas.
What makes this psychedelic? I think visual weirdness is wildly insufficient to describe the far ranging transformative nature of that experience. What psychedelics or any inspirational experience can do at its best is find something worth saying, to show something that has the mysterious flavor and emotional soul of good art.
One possibility is to think about a different approach to the soundtrack, to add an unexpected dimension. I thought of a conversation between mother and child about eating, about the food chain.

Hi Joseph, in my eyes, what made this psychedelic was the way in which this video presented a multi-layered reality, in which the dimensions are rapidly growing in absurd ways. This exploration of dimensions, the infinite and the infinitesimal, and how different dimensions interact with each other is psychedelic to my mind. Best, Ido
