Did you see that cat around 1:20? There was a white cat, alright…

This is outrageous, preposterous, decadent, a case of moral decline and sooo not safe to watch at work. This is what became of those children that you forgot to pick up at the kindergarten… sixteen years ago. What else can I say to make you watch it? I promise: it will blow your mind! and your ass might follow…

It is not always easy to tell the difference between psychedelic and surreal. Both aesthetics are obsessed with dreams and surfaces and the dissolving ego, both are very playful. Usually – not always – you will find a lot more light and color in psychedelic art. On the other hand it tends to get closer to the surreal as soon as darker tones are struck.
This is what makes this clip interesting. It is genuinely dark and psychedelic. Until the moth in the final seconds it avoids symbolism and sticks to the sparkling manifold of the surface. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw more of this merging of psychedelic and gothic aesthetics in the future.
Tape Drift Records founder Eric Hardiman is teaching us some heavy mind kung fu.
Enjoy!
This clip to Yeasayer’s “Ambling Alp” reminds me strongly of the work of Alejandro Jodorowsky.
I assume (please correct me if you know I am wrong about this) this is a fan made video for this beautiful song by the long-standing psychedelic group the Legendary Pink Dots. But what I am sure of is that this is a pretty trippy video. Enjoy!
The Samorost games are beautifully crafted “point and click” puzzle adventures by the independent czech studio Amanita Design. Especially the art direction will give you a lot to admire on your magical journey. The suspicious looking character at around 0:57 gives a hint at how all that incredible detail of the graphics is enjoyed best.
You can play the whole first game and the first chapter of the second right away here and here in your browser.
We wish you a million tiny celebrations of a psychedelic life!
(btw, I did enjoy playing both videos at the same time quite a bit…)
Both NiGHTS into dreams… and NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams are classics of pdychedelic gaming. They combine Sonic’s joy of movement with Peter Pan’s dream of flying.
Another psychedelic dance video after yesterdays Digital Dance. But this time none of those mind bending psychedelic special effects have been edited into the dancing afterwards. Instead we see dance moves imitating and modulating movement patterns that originate in computer generated action sequences.
So what would you suggest is the first psychedelic dance move? Is it the moonwalk?
