Totally Tulip-Trixy Sweetvittles and friends

8 Jan

It’s my birthday tomorrow, so I thought I’d post one of my films. This one is a favorite of mine. It was created in collaboration with my dear friends twins Lecie and Katie Williams and their kids. Their hubbies, Rob Waller and Paul Galiunas make some sweet special appearances as does lovely Andrea Thome. I hope you enjoy the psychedelic silliness!

A trip through an electric desert, Dry Lights unfolds in an imagined environment of cacti and canyons, moving from hidden caves to lonely cliffs along pulsating rivers of light.
This experimental film lies somewhere between a site-specific installation and a performance, where choreographed lights meet organic landscapes. Like an imaginary city flickering in the dark, the lights beacon fragments of vague memories – faded moments, experiences, and topographies. A world in an erratic state of flux that seems to evade any grasp of clear control plays host to constantly alternating physical and mental landscapes. Moving without a destination in the dead hours of night, mesmerising, intermittent apparitions illuminate their surroundings, allowing personal narratives to breed.

Rising to the technical challenge of creating the foundation for this full 3D film almost entirely on my own, I partnered with composer Thomas Vaquié to set the stage for a singular universe to emerge.

1970s psychedelic Bundesliga fashion

4 Jan

In 1970 German fashion designers were worried that Bundesliga players were not colorful enough to meet the demands of the psychedelic era so they redesigned the soccer players uniform in a form that would suit the times. This is the result. The TV presenter even speaks about how we must all seek “to make this colorful world more colorful”. Ah! These were the times 🙂

First LSD scene in cinema, the Tingler 1959

1 Jan

“Average injection 50 micrograms. 50. I’m making it a hundred.” And so begins the first LSD scene in the history of cinema, which was featured, how suitable for the 1950s – in a horror film, in which LSD is described as a drug that will make all of your nightmares become alive and fill you with unbearable fear. What a peculiar notion 🙂 The scientist in the movie is interested in studying fear so he takes LSD, and boy does he go mad…
