“Psyché Rock” by Pierre Henry

25 Aug

Psyché Rock” (from Messe pour le temps présent) by musique concrète master Pierre Henry is a true classic of psychedelic culture. It moves effortlessly between popular material (Louie Louie, the fuzzy sound of psychedelic rock, etc.) and avant-garde techniques of sound manipulation.

You can find all kinds of remixes and versions of the influential track for example by Fatboy Slim, Coldcut, Stereolab, Moog Cookbook, etc. and of course probably the most popular: the Futurama theme.

DATURA: THE DEVIL’S WEED

21 Aug

Mad Mike is a self taught expert on hallucinogenic plants. As a recovering addict/alcoholic, he feels a responsibility to share his knowledge with parents and teenagers about the effects of Jimson Weed. Datura scare videos abound on the Internet, but rarely satisfy the curiosity of inquisitive kids. This short film is intended to inform people about Datura from first hand knowledge of the plant. Mad Mike is a real person who has studied hallucinogens sometimes to his own detriment. Mikes warnings should be heeded and the authors of this film in no way advocate the ingestion of this dangerous narcotic.

PuLiRuLa – Lysergic Brawler

18 Aug

This is NOT a mod or a glitched or otherwise altered game. It is actually an arcade game known as PuLiRuLa or Pu-Li-Ru-La Arcade Gears that was released by the Japanese video game publisher TAITO (of Space Invaders and Bubble Bobble fame) in 1991. Believe it or not – it was even brought to North America in the same year.

The video above shows only the game’s 3rd round which is of a “lysergic” madness I would not have expected from an officially released video game. But the rest of the game is also crazy psychedelic and very beautiful, so I have included the first part of a playthrough underneath.
