The Noel Fielding Luxury Comedy Series  described on the Channel 4 website as “a psychedelic character based comedy show half filmed and half animated” is probably the best psychedelic comedy act to ever been screened on TV.
Give it a chance. You won’t be sorry 😉

Lykke Li and Johan Söderberg are not afraid of old stereotypes. They just pick them up and use them as stone tablets to write in their new laws. When this  Scandinavian heathen valkyrie adorns herself with typical male sexual metaphors, those metaphors start to smell like shrunken heads and gleam like hunting trophies. So we better be careful what we call her since she is going to use it against us in her satanic dissemination rituals. In her voodoo, a word we might have dropped carelessly can be applied instead of a lost hair. In the center of the kaleidoscope she is dancing to the beat of the tribal drums while pulses of light move in on us from the “heart of darkness”. Her ink-stained fingers make clear: she is the one in charge of the Rorschach test.
Colors and shapes transform in a really nice way. Great to watch when you’re stoned.
…that is what a friend who told me about this video called it. And it is pretty spot on. The video for Bear in Heaven’s “Sinful Nature” by director Yoonha Park is uncanny valley’s take on the slick fairytale drowned in a very synthetic high. Bam!
(My favourite part is the yellow Walkman pirouetting through the scene while that Julia Robots is stripping out of her top around 1:24)

Israeli director Vania Heymann has become quite an internet phenomenon in Israel. In the past few months, Vania, a film student from Jerusalem has come out of nowhere and released a series of inspiring and highly viral videos into the Israeli web. His latest work, a video clip for Assaf Avidan’s track Different Pulses, has a nice hallucinatory feel to it.
Dubstep lightshows are becoming quite the thing lately. Here’s another one, done at a colossal stadium.

Hip Hop artist Nicki Minaj has been noted for her psychedelic wardrobe and style . Like other pop artists which were featured here on the DPV such as Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Kesha and Rihanna,  Minaj uses psychedelic elements in her work and proves that the psychedelic style holds great appeal for today’s popular culture.  Even though the message of her videos is far from psychedelic, the visuals are blatantly pyschedelic, which makes me think once again about the way in which psychedelic aesthetics has migrated into exceedingly different segments of popular culture, and ask myself about the role which psychedelic aesthetics play in such an environment.
Anyway, enjoy the clips.
As a child I was enchanted by images of worlds within worlds under the microscope. The music by psychedelic noise trio Emeralds fits the swarming activity of the liquid and translucent machines perfectly.
