The Tale of Hillbelly – Encyclopedia Pictura
10 JunA limber backwoods yogi treks through a hilly landscape of evergreens while a cute little fox has a gutsy adventure. I have never seen anything that looks like this video. The combination of live-action costumes, fairytale backgrounds, experimental puppetry and sweet practical effects creates a familiar yet creepy world. Encyclopedia Pictura is the studio that brought us Panda Bear’s lush and psychedelic “Boys Latin” video. There’s an interview with the creators Daren Rabinovitch, Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch talking about the process of making this labor of love in Juxtapose Magazine.
The Summoning of the Skylark & Harmony 3- Cool 3d World (Brian Tessler and Jon Baken)
27 MayI LOVE weird, glitchy wrong CG character animation. It’s an antidote to the plethora of boring, ugly ditsy CG characters that rudely infiltrate our media streams. The mysterious Cool 3d World, Brian Tessler and Jon Baken, are making me very happy right now. Their Website, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube channels are brimming with beautiful trippy weirdness. The website hosts a bunch of hilarious looping Vine shorts featuring hybrid animal-machine-human-alien characters stretching and growing into melty deformations. The artists are really good at creating a world you care about while using strange mechanisms like a mechanical snake-man slithering across the frame attached to an alien’s umbilical cord or a cute puppy-boy jumping into a woman’s arms and distorting her head with its elongated tongue. Here are a couple of short videos. Cool 3d World does all music and animation.
“What Is”- music video for Curt Oren directed by Josh Heineman
1 AprI am super excited to share this new video created by Josh Heineman. He describes the film as being, “an experimental art film which explores the interconnectedness of humans and nature and how every organism works together to create a greater whole as part of a larger system.” Watching it is like entering a psychedelic jazz cave with electrified kinetic paintings illustrating the origins of life and the challenge of simply being alive. Curt Oren’s music is exciting and intelligent with hypnotic saxophone melodies leading through a vast empty space with a gut punch of emotion.
