PLASTIC BAGS love story

21 Dec

A night walk in the windy streets of Tel Aviv turns into a ecstatic-meditative journey, following the magical encounter of two plastic bags who wonder the streets together, going on and on in a mystical cyclical bag dance. And for a moment the whole street seems to wake up with vibrant life – joining them in a communal dance of bags, feathers,  flowers and even a butterfly.

What I love about this movie, among other things, is it’s sweeping spontaneity: the powerful sense our protagonists radiate (and even I as a viewer have) of witnessing a magical moment – of being in the presence of magic. This magic is very quiet and low-key. It could have easily have gone unnoticed (and indeed is unnoticed by the  bypassers and the cars who cross the street), but our two protagonists, ready to explore the mystery of the streets, are rewarded with the subtle poetical magic that makes this scene enchanted.

“Took part in the making/filming/singing of the movie:
yaacov beaton, mihal goldstein, inbar algazi, shira levy, avner amit, keren sheffi.”

A Taste of Freedom

26 Oct

“A Taste of Freedom” is a somewhat unusual documentary film  by Dutch filmmaker Jan Beddegenoodts. The film is unusual in bringing together two disparate worlds: the lively Israeli trance party scene on the hand, and Palestinian West-bank demonstrations on the other hand. It provides some uneasy perspectives on the political position of the psychedelic underground, especially in a place like Israel, where talking about “Peace and Love” is more problematic due to a highly repressive political situation.  The film is not without it’s flaws, and the comparison between the two worlds of ravers and activists, stand at the danger of becoming overly simplistic at times, yet Beddegenoodts largely avoids this by remaining evocative and descriptive rather than judgmental or prescriptive. Overall, the film is well worth watching.

The Congress

3 Oct

The congress is probably one of the most psychedelic movies I’ve seen in years! Ari Folman has succeeded in transforming the psychedelic experience into a beautiful visionary movie. If you are into psychedelics don’t miss this one!

Some more psychedelic Yogurt

7 Sep

There seems to be something inherently psychedelic about the visual language used in Yoplait yogurt commercials, which thrills me to no end.

And here are some more older psychedelic yogurt ads: Shtusim, Psychedelic Yogurt

Vial of Sound – A Lifetime Passed

27 Aug

More squishy swarms from Ori Toor. A quote from Ori about his workflow:

The animation is made frame by frame in Flash. Sometimes I replicate in flash too. I replicate and group loops together in After Effects where I also play with the colors (pre colored in Flash and lightly manipulated with AE). I don’t use any special plugin. It is mostly “manual” work.

The Garden Guard – Berry Sakharof
