You Look Familiar

For some people, drugs are an escape. This clip may represent some of them. it also reminded me the surrealistic and even psychedelic look of animation in the 1920’s.

Rockfour – Time Machine

9 Jul

Israeli rock group Rockfour has had a long fledged flirt with psychedelic elements. Their albums show a great amount of nostalgia to the sixties and their songs often sound like attempts to mimic the musical style of the sixties (Which is both fun, as well as at other times somewhat disappointing). Likewise, the videoclip for Rockfour’s time machine is a contemporary attempt to mimic the aesthetics of the psychedelic videoclip of the late sixities and early seventies (While making some homage to 1950’s sci-fi films). The result is a pretty accurate mimesis which blends these old motives in a fun way.

Birdy Nam Nam – The Parachute Ending

8 Jul

This shroomy video is by the animator Steve Scott. If any of you are in NYC  this upcoming weekend I recommend you go and check out the Tryptophantasia II – Psychedelic Animation Film Screening. You could check out works by Steve Scott and many other psychedelic animators, and I would be happy to hear your impressions.

Chemical Brothers – Let Forever Be

6 Jul

An amazing kaleidoscopic music clip by the Chemical Brothers. Jumping between dimensions and different perceptions of space and possibilities is what is.
