King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – The River and Cellophane
13 JunKing Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, are an Australian neo-psychedelia band who also dabbles with some surf music elements, kraut-rock, psychedelic folk and heavy metal. The music reminded me a bit of the Grateful Dead mixed with some Can, Led Zeppelin and Buffalo Springfield. Well worth the listen, and nice music clips too.
The Tale of Hillbelly – Encyclopedia Pictura
10 JunA limber backwoods yogi treks through a hilly landscape of evergreens while a cute little fox has a gutsy adventure. I have never seen anything that looks like this video. The combination of live-action costumes, fairytale backgrounds, experimental puppetry and sweet practical effects creates a familiar yet creepy world. Encyclopedia Pictura is the studio that brought us Panda Bear’s lush and psychedelic “Boys Latin” video. There’s an interview with the creators Daren Rabinovitch, Isaiah Saxon and Sean Hellfritsch talking about the process of making this labor of love in Juxtapose Magazine.
