Magic Carpets revisit the tradition of the Islamic art, in particular the mosaic and the carpets.
A huge light carpet covers the floor of Sacré Coeur church. When the viewer moves, the trajectory of the curves is disrupted under their feet.
This world of colors and forms in movement, invites us into the magic universe of the « Arabian Nights » and the flying carpets with the music of Michel Redolfi.
HR Pufnstuf is a highly psycheelic children show which ran on American television in 1969, created by Sid and Marty Krofft.
Over the years the show has had a cult following on account of claims for drug references in the show. According to Wikipedia ‘”Pufnstuf” has been interpreted as a reference to smoking hand-rolled (H.R.) marijuana (puffin’ stuff).
There is something very psychedelic indeed in “Living Island”, that curious piece of land (or headspace) where everything is alive, and in which Jimmy lands. With lots of magic mixed in, and some pretty crazy humor the show is quite fun to watch, even 45 years after it’s original broadcast. It certainly hasn’t lost its charm. Only downside to it, is that once I started watching it a few weeks ago I can’t get the title song out of my head. Bewarned!
Here is the first episode of the series in which “Jimmy and his magic flute Freddy are lured to Living Island and trapped there by Witchiepoo’s trickery when she makes the Magic Path disappear.”
N/A Brummbaer’s YouTube channel is bursting with brilliant and mesmerizing computer-generated visions. “Where in the Universe is Timothy Leary?” goes into the rabbit hole, searching for the lost guru of LSD, and finally reaches the only possible conclusion – “Question authority and think for yourself” – The real Timothy Leary is inside yourself.
Other favorites include a very original take the question of crop circles:
And also one of the finest fractal universes I’ve ever been to:
Half Full Glass Of Wine is the type of song you come across rarely with it’s half speed, double riffing magic. Kevins vocals float through the air like a magic carpet ride through an aural wonderland, the guitars dual each other in a call and response frenzy, which all leads up to a beast of a solo that holds you by the soul galloping away in oblivion.
Half Full Glass Of WIne comes accompanied by a video directed by creative minds Special Problems (Cut Off Your Hands, Mercy Arms) who has created the perfect trippy realm for you to get lost in. Humming birds that flutter around a sumo wrestler, monkeys bounce off of canons and dance upon their fiery discharge, dogs jump at floating ships on the horizon like possessed beasts.
Thanks to my house mate Loic for the link (I advice you to have a look at his blog as painter/street art actor : http://lepantinpeint.blogspot.fr/)
I’ve watched a number of videos which attempted to emulate the optical effects of psychedelics through the use of optical geometry in the past, but this is by far the superior one. Watch the clip for 2 minutes, and you’ll be amazed at how transformed your vision will be.
