Recess: School’s Out – “Green Tambourine”

7 Aug

Credit sequence from the movie Recess: Schools Out.

I remember watching this show whenever i could when i was a kid, and it brings backs much nostalgia just watching it again. I saw the movie as a kid, but watching it again i never noticed how much 60’s references there were, as well as this psychedelic ending to my childhood. It brings me much joy and laughter knowing that a children’s show like this had the balls to incorporate 60’s elements like this into there movie. Its beautiful really, and earns its place as one of my favorite childhood shows.

N.E.R.D. – “Squeeze Me”

3 Jul

5 years after there last album or any independent work, Squeeze Me by N.E.R.D was created solely for the 2015 movie “The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water”.

Even though this movie wasn’t very good, it still confused and intrigued me that a kids show like Spongebob were its had no previous use of psychedelic visuals, is using psychedelic visuals to both promote and entertain viewers of there movie with. I mean it worked in the long run i thought it was cool, and it makes me wonder why more shows don’t incorporate psychedelic visuals. Marketing gimmick?

HR Pufnstuf : The Magic Path – Sid and Marty Krofft

25 Jan

HR Pufnstuf is a  highly psycheelic children show which ran on American television in 1969, created by Sid and Marty Krofft.

Over the years the show has had a cult following on account of claims for drug references in the show. According to Wikipedia ‘”Pufnstuf” has been interpreted as a reference to smoking hand-rolled (H.R.) marijuana (puffin’ stuff).

There is something very psychedelic indeed in “Living Island”, that curious piece of land (or headspace) where everything is alive, and in which Jimmy lands. With lots of magic mixed in, and some pretty crazy humor the show is quite fun to watch, even 45 years after it’s original broadcast. It certainly hasn’t lost its charm. Only downside to it, is that once I started watching it a few weeks ago I can’t get the title song out of my head. Bewarned!

Here is the first episode of the series in which “Jimmy and his magic flute Freddy are lured to Living Island and trapped there by Witchiepoo’s trickery when she makes the Magic Path disappear.”

The Scared is scared

15 Jun

This is probably one of the cutest things I saw in my life. Bianca Giaver asked a six years old what her film should be about. She directed  the story he told her verbatim and with the sweetest devotion.  The result is funny, inspiring and psychedelic.
