SCRIPTURA VITAE is a short-film based on the artwork of Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic. Commissioned as part of the Random Acts arts platform by Channel 4, this film marks the directorial debut of artist and designer, Aerosyn-Lex.
A poetic performance piece exploring duality, SCRIPTURA VITAE stars famed Japanese actress Miho Nikaido, best known for her role in the Japanese cult classic film “Tokyo Decadence”, alongside Butoh performer and dancer Maki Shinagawa.
Featuring new original music by DIPLO and standout tracks Parallel World by avant-garde London-based producer ACTRESS and Geisha by the young British duo, PLAITUM.
Through the heart of Detroit’s Automotive industry flowed a Rich, Deep, Viscous, Black Liquid; Motor Oil.These works of “Ink & Pressure” draw a visual correlation between Black Ink and Black Oil. Though the two substances may share a similar appearance their properties and interactions with the environment around them are wholly different. Oil is a profoundly indelible substance, leaving its mark through history economically, environmentally and sociologically; yet rarely do we see the imprint of the substance itself. Through these works I hope to re-contextualize a substance which has had a profound impact on the history of this great city.
Jake laid down some ink again and each frame will funk with your mind.
Miles Davis might have been more into heroin than into LSD, but the renowned trumpet player was also becoming increasingly psychedelic by the end of the 1960s as any glance at the 1968 Bitches Brew album cover by Matti Klarwein can reveal.
Yet, even though Miles initially wanted Hendrix to play guitar for his album, he never got around to making a psychedelic music clip. This video which mixes Davis’s music with some 1960’s LSD film footage amends this historical injustice.
