The truth about the universe – (Philip K. Dick’s 1977 matrix speech)

1 Jul

” We are living in a computer programmed reality and the only clue we have to it, is when some variable is changed and some alteration in our reality occurs”. These words sound like straight of the “The Matrix” movie, but they were actually articulated by Philip  K. Dick in 1977. Only that Dick was profoundly serious – he based his words on his a series of intense experiences and revelations he had gone through over the years.

A typical scene from a sci-fi movies shows a crazy scientist explaining to an incredulous crowd some incredibly preposterous new theory which has amazing implications for the plot. Philip K. Dick, perhaps the most psychedelic of all authors, seems like the protagonist of such a scene in this short clip. But you should take him seriously, because we are all part of the fantastic megaplot which appears in Dick’s books. In fact, I won’t be surprised if we find out that we are all only part of Dick’s hallucinations to begin with.

So be suspicious, because the divine conspiracy is here. The empire never ended.

Sailor Moon

27 Jun

Sailor Moon is one of the super-successful Japanese anime series of the 90’s (It also has a whole franchise of manga, merchandise and other stuff). It demonstrates the popular genre of “Magical girl warrior”, in which girl warriors release their magical or psychic powers through transformation sequences that mostly include magic rituals like… changing clothes.

Yes, you heard that right. In this genre  (That has already spread out of Japan), controlling supernatural magic is done by changing to the the right outfit. It’s hard to understand what is the idea behind this. Does it try to convey a commercial message? Or does it symbolize an inner mental transformation, like in “Synchronization” in Neon Genesis Evangelion (Another famed anime series from the 90’s)?

It’s only purpose is probably to look cool in the eyes of the girls that form the show’s audience. But as long as it is presented with psychedelic-like visuals of glowing colors and surreal images, it satisfies me! If you are looking for more clips like these, Youtube is just loaded with them.

What mushrooms did she eat?

The title of this video of this video on YouTube sounds derogatory, but after watching the video itself, it really makes me laugh.

There is something so incredibly cool about people who are really really stoned, or for that matter, maybe just don’t care about social conventions.

This girl is really expressing herself, and to me, this is one of the most beautiful things to watch.

Baby Jesus celebrates his birthday

24 Jun

This week, I celebrated my 33rd birthday. Being 33, which is of course the age in  Jesus died of the course, made me think of Jesus, and the time to be reborn.

A friend of mine shared this link on my wall, to congratulate me for my birthday with a psychedelic-pop-Jesus. I was mesmerized.

Doctor Who?

20 Jun

What we are dealing with here in this batch of clips, is not the  program “Doctor Who” itself, but with the various main title sequences that were produced for it since it was  launchec in 1963 and were always styled with spacey/psychedelic visuals… But the program also offers some far-out  ideas to fuel your imagination with (like time travel, communication with aliens, etc.)

Well, here are the opening titles from the original 1963 production, one version in black and white and one colorized version which looks even better:

And a web clip which compiles all the opening sequences from the show’s history, and provide different styles of sci-fi inspired animation:

1990s X Rave – Amazing footage

17 Jun

Watching other people on drugs is fun and interesting even when you are totally sober.  Sometimes, it can bring you back to the way it felt for you when you were buzzing. At other times it is just plain funny and weird to watch.

This 15 minutes movie is taken from a security camera from installed in a 1992 rave where most of the people must haven going on incredibly high doses of ecstasy (Check out the incredible jaw movement of the dude at 2:10).

Ecstasy, incidentally, is not really a psychedelic, only a semi-psychedelic, and is linked to many adverse affects,  so it’s best to learn about it before thinking of giving it a try.

The 1990s D.J. who uploaded this video writes some pretty moving words on YouTube, reminiscing about the times:

“In this video which is actually 4 hour long cut down, you will see how some of the people enjoyed the best music in rave culture. Some people will never see these days and some will have lived them so I dedicate this to you and the friends gained and lost through good and bad times. enjoy…

If you was there say your shout outs as you would have wanted…
If you have lost friends maybe you can add a tribute.

If you want to put a bad comment have some respect and keep it for your self..

This video is surely about the good times… Its about Peace & Love”

Tomorrow Never Knows

13 Jun

Hi there. This is my first post as a new contributor and I’m glad to meet you!

This is a very cool home made music clip for this amazing psychedelic song by the Beatles. The music is very trippy while the lyrics are some of the deepest I’ve known.

There is nothing like a bored bunch of teenagers to make for an exciting video clip. However it is open to decide if this particular one is subversive, or to be more exact – what it subverts: mainstream culture, or psychedelic culture. This clip mixes psychedelic imagery from suburbia with long scenes of eating a burger in McDonalds. It is hard to realize what its supposed to mean or of it even is supposed to mean something, but it smells like teen spirit, and I like it!

So enjoy!
