I had a chance to play visuals at The Vegas location of Meow Wolf a few months ago and i was absolutely blown away with how immersive and interactive the whole experience was. Very inspirational
Yesterday, scientists from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) announced the detection of gravitional waves from the violent merging of two black holes in deep space. How cool is that? Scientists describe the finding as discovering an entirely new way to view the universe.
This optical illusion takes advantage of the “persistence of vision”, a phenomenon of brain chemistry. As explained on the Youtube page of the second version of this illusion posted here bellow:
“Because chemical reactions are not instantaneous, the visual stimulation, resulting in a positive afterimage (i.e. your walls moving) remains in the brain for a certain amount of time. Normally, when something moves, we don’t notice the positive afterimage because this amount of time is usually only a small fraction of a second. You achieve greater persistence of vision in my experiment by staring at the graphic for an extended period of time.” It’s always interesting to know about the things that shape our perception!

This is a visualization of a kaleidoscope, as you might have already guessed. This one also reacts to cursor movements, providing non-stop psychedelic visuals. What I like to do with it is to stare into it’s middle until the hypnotizing swirling movement fills my whole field of view. Then it looks like I’m floating inside…
