Go-qualia “Requiem”
20 JanA pitch-perfect video for Go-qualia’s Requiem, with sparkling imagery and elements of sacred geometry. It reminds me of Eckhart Tolle’s quote: “diamonds are the enlightenment of rocks.” In that sense, this video is a beautiful visual representation of enlightenment.
ACORNUCOPIA
17 JanSquirrel gains access to a psychedelic oak tree in the sky. By Jason P. Ryan. Jason also did the effects for this pretty cool acid trip sequence for a comedy series:
Billy Ze Kick – Mangez-Moi
14 JanBilly Ze Kick are a French band from the 1990s, with lots of psychedelic references and overtones. Their song “Mangez-Moi” (eat me) in which the band goes mushroom picking in the forest and different magic mushrooms beg them to eat them and promise to open their minds, was a big hit in 1990s France. Apparently not everybody realized what the song was really about…
Billy Ze Kick also had a very funny song about OCB rolling papers.
All these songs are much funnier when you speak French (I don’t, but I had some French speaking people explain them to me).
Norman McLaren – Begone Dull Care 1949
12 JanNorman McLaren was an oscar winning animation director who did some groundbreaking work from the 1940s to the 1970s. McLaren “Begone Dull Care” from 1949, was painted directly on film, to create a visual representation of Oscar Peterson’s superb piano – perhaps one of the first video clips ever.
McLaren’s work has a special exploratory quality. You can find more of it on YouTube.
