OOIOO

4 Dec

OOIOO is a Japanese all-woman band, founded in 1995. Even how they describe themselves in their website is delirious:

“OOIOO has it’s own personality. It’s music has been changing into different color even it’s own music breath and regenerate itself. You can not find the balance of their music any where else. One and only existance.”

Clinic’s latest video features a rite of horned hippy puppets summoning up some entity. what could have been a disturbing or just a bizarre image is kept sweet and small by the explicit craft of puppetry.

Clinic – ‘The Witch’

27 Nov

Following the recent Jefferson Airplane video, Here’s one from Clinic, a Liverpool indie-rock band. The 1960’s style light shows still works for psychedelic rock, only now it has that added nostalgia that goes well with their retro chic. I started with their video for ‘The witch’ an than got to their live performance that of course applies a trippy light show, and in between found a few more nice videos that go way beyond this convention, but retain a colorful delirious look. Soon on DPV!

The Intergalactic Underground

23 Oct

I think it’s time to reveal the psychedelic videos of DPV’s founder, Ido Hartogshon. His diverse enterprises include a political (?) party, a motivational course for personal and universal Geula, a birthday party for the whole universe, and a series of commercials that explain why marijuana is evil. and most of these are psychedelicly documented in his funny and extremely good vibe youtube page.

and here comes an intergalactic transmission:

The psychedelic films of Peter Jackson

9 Oct

I remembered the idea Terrence Mckenna expressed, about mainstream culture becoming psychedelic because it’s creators are directly influenced by the psychedelic experience, when I saw Jackson’s “Lovely Bones”. Jackson’s most popular films -the Lord Of The Rings series, take place in a fantasy world, and have an according design that is 100% fairytale illustration. the “psychedelic” manifestations in his work are therefor found in other films, where a realistic happening is suddenly juxtaposed with a completely surreal and colorful delirium. this transition from a more or less realistic cinematic expression to a visually packed fantastic one, has more in common with the use of psychedelic drugs than a film that is fantastic from beginning to end. I believe Jackson chose to use visuals that are characteristic of psychedelic trips (ie – the melting background, brighr colors, radiant objects, flying and the intensification of Nature) in places where he wants to depict a liminal state – between life and death, between sanity and psychosis, childhood and adulthood.
