This Will Destroy You – “New Topia”

2 Oct

Experimental post rock band, This Will Destroy You, brings us and adult swim a music video for the song “New Topia” which is about the spiritual and symbolic journey through the seven sacraments, which allows us to dream for what could be revealed behind the door to the afterlife. New Topia is a place for imagination and hope for what lies ahead.

Honestly probably one of my top psychedelic/animation video of this year. The ethereal sounding music takes over your mind and body as you watch the simplistic symbols transform, before the song kicks in sending you into deep time. so be warned…

This WILL destroy you

The Abstractions of Morgan Beringer

12 Sep

A beautiful, haunting, trance-inducing and marginally disturbing video art series. Morgan Beringer (featured here before) has uploaded 23 of 64 videos – each a strikingly unique composition – usually morphing photographs or after-effects generators with various aberrations & distortions with a hypnotic rhythm track. Watch the entire playlist and you’ll be entranced… I’ve shared some of my favourites here.

Them distorted, twisted Lovebirds from the psychedelic dimensions.
What realms do they occupy in their amorous inactivity?
Excellently weird video from Nic Hamilton set to music by Actress.

Chase the line…

Made from Stock

13 Dec

When a friend showed me this video for the first time, I asked him, “How would you go about making a video like this? How would you describe this vision to a director?” It turns out that you don’t. Carl Burgess was given complete freedom in creating this video for Ratatat, and the finished product was made entirely from stock footage. Here’s a full article on the production: http://www.fastcodesign.com/1662128/carl-burgess-director-of-the-years-creepiest-coolest-music-video

And while the above is my favorite, I think it would be dishonest of me to post a Ratatat video for a community like the DPV without  tossing in at least one more. I’d say Falcon Jab is probably the most traditionally psychedelic of their videos–that I’ve seen, anyway–but there’s just something all too human in the video for Drugs that made me choose it for my headline this Saturday.
